What is a Bucknell externship? Bucknell Externships are short (approximately 2 days) shadow experiences for sophomores who are interested in learning more about a particular profession. Externship sponsors are Bucknell alums, parents, or friends who are willing to bring students into their workplace settings to observe and gain a better understanding of what the sponsors do on a daily basis and the culture in which the sponsor works. Externships will be arranged for the 2 days during a week time period in January during winter break. Financial and Academic Credit Issues Bucknell’s Externship Program will be voluntary and you will neither be paid nor receive academic credit. Additionally, you will be responsible for all expenses associated with this experience, including housing, transportation, food, parking, and other related costs. Responsibility Issues This survey is neither binding nor promissory. There will be mandatory Externship Orientation Sessions. To apply for externships, students must attend one session. This session will discuss your responsibilities and the potential externship opportunities. Applications for externships will be due in October. Exact application date is TBA. Once an externship has been arranged, you will be expected to attend in full. Failure to do so will result in your inability to participate in additional University-organized events, including the spring career fairs held both on- and off-campus.
